Week 27, January 30, 2017

Howdy!

So it turns out I will in fact be leaving the columbine ward. I will be headed to the Paonia ward over in montrose so I am headed out west again! But I am so happy I got to serve here in the columbine ward! I have loved it so much and was glad I got to serve here. I have loved being able to serve and touch the lives of those people in this ward. And am so thankful for the oppurtunity I have had to grow. I love this area. 

I love all of you! Also as a side note I have been out 6 months! already 1/4th of the way done! and I am no longer a greenie! or in other words newbie. So lets hope for another amazing 18 months!

Week 26, January 23, 2017

So as a heads up transfers are in a week and so I will have definitive news next week. But from what president has told me it is rather likely I will be moving on. In his words "it might be wise to begin packing sooner than later". So I am expecting that I will be moving on. 

This week has been rather dull. We met with Suzy Harrison who is an amazing less active who is coming back to church after 40 years. I love teaching her because you can always feel the spirit so strongly and you can really feel her desire to learn and to grow. I love being able to teach her and help her learn. 

But sadly that is about all we have done this week. Hopefully there will be more to report next week. 

I love all of you so much. You are all amazing! 

I am so glad I have to support of the greatest family and friends a guy could ever hope for. I love you all!

Week 25, January 16, 2017

Howdy!

So this week was so much fun! We got to meet with two amazing less actives and our most progressing investigator. It is so amazing to watch them progress towards the gospel and the happiness it brings. I love feeling the spirit touch their hearts. 

We also got to see a hawk that was super close and just chilled as we got like 3 feet away. It was so cool! Other than that the only exciting news is we went on exchanges which was a lot of fun. I love the people in my district. 

I just guess I will end with my testimony that I know this church is true. There is no way I would spend 2 years so far from my family while paying to be here, if it weren't. I love the gospel. It has made my life so much better and I could not imagine my life without it. I love it so much. I love being able to serve the Lord with all my heart might and mind. I love this opportunity. I love you all so much.

Week 24, January 9, 2017

Howdy y'all!

So this week has been a lot of fun and has included some interesting new developments. We had a zone conference where we met with a lot of the mission leadership including President and one of his counselors and a lot of the couple missionaries from the office. We had a lot of wonderful training that I cannot wait to apply in my area. I love being a missionary and cannot wait to develop these new talents and skills that will help me be an effective messenger of the Lord. I love this work. 

Some of the best trainings were about how its sometimes the little things that make a huge difference. It takes a lot of courage and dedication to work hard and try to talk to complete strangers. But I know that it is worth it as we spread the glorious news of the gospel. I love this work. I love my mission. Its the best thing I have ever done.

An extra "treat" for those following the blog

Sometimes Nathan is able to find time to write hand-written letters home. Most of the time these are addressed to me and Jason and the rest of the kids. Nathan wrote this one two days after Christmas and as I read it I felt I should include it here in the blog. I just wanted you to have an opportunity to see the same awesome things about this guy that we do. I did post this with his permission.

Week 23, January 2, 2017

So this is a new year..... And I cannot wait! Its going to be an amazing year! I cannot wait to devote this time to the Lord! I love being a missionary!

This week I cannot report all that much. I must say the one downside of the holidays is that it seems everyone is either out of town or has WAY too much family coming in so we have not met with practically any of our investigators. I am sad about this but am very happy to say that now we will be able to meet with our investigators again! And just because we weren't meeting people doesn't mean we weren't working hard. Its just that no one answers their doors or phones...... which really makes our job a lot harder. But I refuse to be discouraged! We will work hard and strive to bring the gospel to as many people as possible. The Gospel is the greatest source of joy in my life. I want others to experience that same joy. I love this gospel.

I think that is about it but I would like to also add that I love all of you. You are all amazing. I know I usually don't act like I care all that much but honestly you all mean the world to me and I love you. Thank you so much for being my friends.

Week 22, December 26, 2016

Howdy! 

So this week has been rather slow but full of amazing events. Yesterday by far had to be my favorite part of the week. I loved being able to see my family even for only an hour. I miss them all so much but am so glad to have the support of the most amazing family in the world. I have so many thank yous to give so I am going to just give a quick shout out to all who sent presents and cards. I loved them all so much and was touched by the love and thoughts that were behind them all. I will be sure to write specific thank yous in a minute. I want you all to know how much I love you. It is amazing being on a mission and I wouldnt be able to be here without all of you. I love you so much. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. 

I love this holiday because it allows us to reflect and remember the birth of our savior who came to save us all from pain, sorrow and the effects of our own bad choices. I love the savior and am so happy to be able to witness his love each day.

Week 21, December 19, 2016

Howdy!

So this tuesday was transfers! We have had some exciting changes here in the columbine area. We have a new Elder! Elder Bergeron is from French Canada and has been serving for 17 months. He is super fun and brings a whole new energy to the area. Its going to be a great transfer serving with him. We also got a new Car! or rather A car. We only have about 100 miles though so.... yeah.

This week has been full of fun and service. Mostly for the members we live with but a lot to those around us. We have cleaned apartments, walked dogs, participated in operation santa (Lockheed Martin adopts families and supplies them with toys for their kids.), shoveled a LOT of driveways, helped pick out toys for a toy drive, and helped our member put up their Christmas tree. I included a picture of the tree. Specifically the ornament I got them. They loved it and added it to the tree. They also label this as the "Angel tree" where they hang all the pictures of family and friends. So I am honored to be considered an "angel". 

So in explanation on all the driveways, on saturday we awoke and received a text from the mission office saying that all cars were not to be driven. So all our plans were cancelled. BUT it meant an amazing service opportunity! So we got to go shovel a lot of driveways. It was amazing!

But that kinda summed up our week. Its been so much fun! I Love serving here. 

The biggest highlight though has been Suzy Harrison! She is an amazing less active who has been inactive for forty Years! And it has been so much fun to teach her. She is so enthusiastic. And She knows what she needs to do. Reading the Book of Mormon. As we taught her one of the things that was so important was the Book of Mormon. In explanation it is important to note that everything we teach as missionaries can be found in the Book of Mormon. It is so essantial to what we believe. I love the Book of Mormon and am growing to love the Bible. They are inspired of God. I know that.

Week 20, December 12, 2016

Howdy Y'all!!!!

So transfer news came in this week! and........... I AM STAYING!!!! 😇

But my companion is leaving......😧

I will be getting a new companion elder Bergeron. He is from french Canada! He sounds like an awesome missionary although I have never met him before.

Also this week has been full of fun! We had a dentist trip on tuesday, an AMAZING temple trip on wednesday, a fun exchange on thursday, and an uplifting mission tour on friday. Saturday I was sick so that kinda stunk and then sunday was spent preparing for the transfers and meeting with the Brooks family. 

So as far as details go, thursday Elder Christensen had a doctor's appointment in aurora so we had to transfer with our district leader in order to get there. So me and Elder Mata Ele were able to do service together at an elderly home. We got to play cards with 2 elderly women for about 2 and a half hours. It was a lot of fun. 

Then on friday, the mission tour. The mission tour is when a general authority comes and trains us how to be better missionaries. This time it was Elder C Scott Grow. He was fun and a very funny speaker. I really enjoyed his trainings. I loved it so much!

Week 19, December 5, 2016

So this week here in columbine has been fun although a bit dull. Unfortunately a lot of things fell through this week. My companion was sick, a lot of appointments cancelled last minute..... It was a bit rough. But still! The work moves forward! We had an AMAZING ward Christmas party including a live band, and our bishopric dressing up as alvin and the chipmunks to sing their Christmas song! I believe some members posted the video on youtube. I don't know for certain seeing as I am not allowed to go on youtube.....  So yeah!

Anyway, The thing that stood out to me the most this week is that the Lord loves us and is aware of our needs. He will provide a way to meet every one of our needs if we let him. And sometimes people are the way God provides for us. This year the church is focusing on service for the holidays. If you all have a chance I would go to the lds.org website and look up the calender. It has lots of awesome Ideas of how to serve our loved ones.

Week 18, November 28, 2016

So there has not been a huge amount going on here in the columbine ward but we went on exchanges with the Belleview YSA which now includes Golden! So I took a few pictures. Here ya go. They are all of the sign and so this is the best picture. Other than that its just been a lot of fun sharing the gospel with others. I love what I am doing. I love being able to share the truths I hold so dear. I love being able to help others improve their lives by helping them come closer to Christ. Hopefully we will be having a baptism soon! We have been working with Clarence Brooks and we hope to invite him to be baptized this tuesday! I would invite yall to pray for him. He really wants to change his life and has seen how the gospel will help him. Its been amazing to see him progress!

I love y'all and hope that you are all doing well this amazing season as we think of the reason for the season. Christ. I love you all.

Week 17, November 21, 2016

Howdy Yall! 

So we got snow! just so you all know that is elder Mata Ele who is spinning and its Elder Swanger singing! It was so much fun to finally see snow for the first time in years. I am so excited for this winter! 

So this week we didnt teach a whole bunch, the snow threw off our schedule, but we taught Clarence Brooks. It was an awesome lesson with our ward mission leader. We taught on the importance of reading the book of Mormon. To some that may seem like a small thing but the book of Mormon is known as the keystone of our religion for a reason. It really is so important. For those who have not read it I would suggest you do. It is amazing! I for one did not put enough importance on the book of Mormon until my mission. But I have seen the way it changes the lives of those around me. It has changed my life. I love the book of Mormon so much!

Also interesting experience for the week, We were shopping at Walmart today and were approached by a man who wanted to let us know a bit about his beliefs. I must say that I always enjoy hearing other peoples beliefs, but unfortunately he presented them in such a way as to basically say "I'm right and you're wrong". I do not enjoy people telling me that something that is so very dear to me is wrong. I respect whatever opinions people might have, but please do not try to convince me I am "wrong". I Know that this church is true. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of our loving Heavenly Father. You may feel free to disagree. But I know these things to be true.

That being said. I love you all. You guys are all so amazing! Thank you so much for all that you do. Youre all the best. I love you. Christ loves you. Satan hates your guts.
